How Stable is Your Ankle?
One of the biggest tests that athletic trainers use to figure out how bad of a sprain the person suffered is the weight bearing test.
Have you ever noticed that after an injury in sports the trainers do everything they can to get the injured athlete up on his or her feet?
The reason for this is that the ability to bear your own weight is a good measure of how serious an injury is. If you can’t bear your own weight without feeling like you are going to fall over, then there’s a very good chance that you have serious structural damage to your ankle and you should see a doctor right away.
Here’s how you test it…
Stand up on both feet and do your best to put an equal amount of weight on each foot. The foot with the injured ankle will hurt, but the question is…does it feel like you are going to fall over? Are you unstable?
